Salih appoints Karrar Abadi governor of Babylon

Iraq’s President Barham Salih has appointed Karrar Abadi governor of Babylon province despite calls for investigations into whether he received the position for money.

Abadi’s appointment comes after he was elected by Babylon’s provincial council in late October under claims of corruption.

There have been accusations that Abadi’s selection as governor of the province came about through a “purely partisan” system of “positions for sale”. Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has called for investigations into the matter, adding in a post on Twitter, “We will not accept that [Babylon’s] effects, positions, lands and wealth be sold and bought by the corrupt and the oppressors.” Source
