Abadi ‘likely to form the coming govt’.: Victory alliance

Victory alliance has asserted that the incumbent Iraqi premier Haider al-Abadi will form the coming government.

Spokesman for the alliance Hussein al-Adli said that Abadi at the time is the one who suits the post. And he is likely to form the government which will stay in office until 2022.

He added:”At the meetings with blocs within the national dialogue efforts, we asserted the need to accelerate efforts aimed to form the coming government.

He also claimed Abadi is widely accepted by wide spectrum on the Iraqi arena, including the Sairun alliance led by the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr which took the lead in the legislative elections held last May 12th.

The spokesman yet noted negotiations are still ongoing in order not to miss the constitutional deadline. According to the Iraqi constitution, the newly elected legislature should convene its first session on July 1st. Source
