We will not attend parliament’s extension session: KDP

Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) head, Arafat Karam, announced on Sunday that his bloc will not attend the parliament’s extraordinary session, in which extending parliament’s term will be discussed.

“We will boycott any session that discuss the extension of the parliament’s term because it is not constitutional”, Karam said.

He added that the Iraqi constitution states that “the electoral term of the Council of Representatives shall be limited to four calendar years, starting with its first session and ending with the conclusion of the fourth year”.

Karam pointed out that extending parliament’s term, which supposed to end on June 30, aims to ruin the political process and pass a number of laws that serve the interests of the blocs that did not win in the elections. Source
