Integrity Committee: Funds to reconstruct 1,600 schools embezzled

Iraq’s Parliamentary Integrity Committee revealed on Tuesday that a number of influential figures have stolen funds allocated to reconstruct 1,600 schools in the country, pointing out that “political interference” stands against launching a probe in the Ministry of Education.

A member of the committee, Kazem al-Saydy, said that “Interventions and pressures of political parties stand against launching a probe in the Ministry of Education and holding those responsible for the deteriorating level of education and stealing its funds accountable.”

“There is a deliberate ignorance to the Education Ministry,” he added, stating that 2019 budget has not adjusted the ministry.” Source
