Oil Minister: Int’l companies obliged to improve Iraqi services

Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luaibi said that new contracts that will be concluded by the Ministry of Oil with international investment companies will include the obligation of companies to establish projects that contribute to improving the level of services provided to citizens in the infrastructure, education, health, water, housing and social recreation sectors.

Luaibi added that “these contracts will bind companies to employ 85 percent of the workforce with Iraqis, while the contribution of construction companies in the ministry will not be less than 25 percent of the construction and implementation funds, in addition to laying the bases for the entry of an Iraqi investor with capital of not less than 20 percent of project cost.”

He called on “international companies and organizations to actively contribute in the development of programs and plans to address environmental pollution and emissions resulting from the production of oil, as well as from landmines or remnants left by the country’s wars over the past decades.” Source
