Abdul-Mahdi tackles humanitarian situation in Iraq with ICRC’s delegation
Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi on Monday has stressed the necessity to ensure a safe return of all the displaced people to homes as soon as possible, a statement by the PM’s office said.
The remarks were made during a meeting with Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and the accompanying delegation.
The humanitarian situation in Iraq was tackled during the meeting in addition to methods for alleviating the suffering of the Iraqi people after the country’s war against ISIS.
Both officials also urged providing every possible effort to support the ICRC’s work in Iraq.
“The government is keen on ensuring a safe return of all the displaced people to their homes and providing them with all basic needs, including health services and education,” the prime minister said.
Meanwhile, Maurer, thanked the Iraqi government for its support of ICRC in Iraq, indicating that the international community should play a role in supporting humanitarian efforts and service projects in the country. Source
