Pentagon top official in Baghdad to discuss future of troops in Iraq
Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan arrived, Tuesday, in Baghdad, an informed political source has said.
In remarks, the source said the visit “was not announced in advance.”
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added that Shanahan “will meet with US officials and Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi during his visit.”
The visit, according to the source, came “to discuss along with the US army commanders and Iraqi government the future of the troops in Iraq.”
This comes amid calls from Iraqis urging US troops to stay for training security troops. Source
