Saairun proposes imposing compulsory military conscription in Iraq
Saairun Alliance submitted to the parliament on Saturday a draft bill proposes imposing the compulsory military conscription of Iraqi youth, according to MP Inass al-Makssosi.
“The compulsory military conscription is imposed in several countries,” al-Makssosi stated in press conference alongside MPs of the political bloc, adding that Iraq badly needs this legislation to build its army.
The draft bill proposes forcibly recruiting youth for military service, starting from 19 years old, in return, the state will provide them with paid jobs at its institutions and partnering corporates for two years.
“The law will eliminate unemployment and encourage youth to work hard,” al-Makssosi said. Source
