A UN welcomes the Saudi initiative to end the ongoing war in Yemen Monday 22, March 2021 19:37 The United Nations announced that it welcomes the new initiative by Saudi Arabia to end the 6-year-old war in Yemen.
And Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced today, Monday, that the Kingdom decided to launch a new peace initiative to end the Yemen war.
Bin Farhan said during a press conference that: The Saudi initiative includes a nationwide ceasefire under the supervision of the United Nations, and it will start once the Houthis agree to the initiative.
He added: The Saudi initiative includes relaunching political talks to end the Yemen crisis. He called on both: the Yemeni government and the Houthis to approve the initiative.
The Saudi Foreign Minister affirmed; That: The Saudi-led coalition will ease the blockade of the port of Hodeidah, and tax revenues from the port will go to a joint bank account with the Central Bank.
Bin Farhan stressed that: The Arab coalition will allow the reopening of Sanaa airport to a specific number of direct regional and international destinations.
Iraq launches New Educational TV Channel 22nd March 2021 Iraq’s Ministry of Education has launched Madrasty, a new educational TV channel.
The channel will be broadcast via satellite from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
There will also be a facility for students to contact their teachers by phone.
The Head of Iraq Educational TV, Ahmed Adil, said the new service aims to provide equal opportunities to all students.
Petrofac Wins Contract Extension in Iraq 22nd March 2021 Petrofac has announced that its Engineering & Production Services division (‘EPS’) has secured a one-year contract extension worth around US$80 million with a key client in Iraq. While not mentioning the specific project, the company said:
“The award is recognition of Petrofac’s successful eight-year track record of safe delivery as the incumbent operations and maintenance service provider.
“The facility which Petrofac will continue to manage, is one of the largest in the Gulf and handles around 55% of Iraq’s crude oil exports.”
Basra Oil Company (BOC) awarded Petrofac the operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for its Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project (ICOEEP) at Fao [Faw] Terminal in 2012.
Steve Webber, SVP Operations EPS East, commented:
“This contract extension strengthens our long-term client partnership. Since the start of our involvement in 2012, we have supported this facility to export over 4 billion barrels of oil. Our teams in Iraq have an impeccable safety record and the use of innovative solutions have been at the heart of our delivery model. We look forward to supporting our client to maintain the best-in-class operation of this important national asset.”
Petrofac has been providing services in Iraq since 2010, involved in a range of greenfield and brownfield projects in the country worth more than US$1 billion.
Foreign currency exchange climbs, Iraq’ central bank said. 2021-03-22 05:02
Shafaq News / the Central Bank of Iraq on Monday, announced increase in the foreign currency exchange.
Shafaq News Agency correspondent said that the foreign currency auction of the Central Bank of Iraq recorded an increase to 94 million 794 thousand dollars which the bank covered at an exchange rate of 1460 dinars per dollar. He added that the sales operations were in the form of wire transfer and credits.
Last December, Iraq’s central bank increased the sale price of U.S. dollars to banks and currency exchanges to 1,460 dinars, from 1,182 dinars, seeking to compensate for a decline in oil revenue due to low crude prices, the bank said on Saturday.
The central bank of Iraq said the key reason behind the dinar’s devaluation was to close the gap of widened 2021 budget inflation after a collapse in global oil prices, a major source of Iraq’s financial resources.
Baghdad completes its security preparations for the early elections 2021-03-22 15:40
Shafaq News / The Commander of Baghdad Operations, Major General Ahmed Salim Bahjat, chaired the Baghdad Elections Committee’s periodic conference, attended by heads and members of the intelligence service and media subcommittees.
In a statement, Bahjat stressed, “the necessity to prepare a summary of the most important steps that have been accomplished by these subcommittees recently, to submit them for the Supreme Committee.”
“The units designated to protect registration centers should be with the highest level of vigilance and caution to prevent any attempts to disturb the elections”, he added.
Bahjat called on the media committee to, “launch awareness campaigns and urge citizens to update their voter cards, and establish a force to protect the offices of the commission, and hold coordination conferences for the sub-committees and the committees.”
For their part, the heads of the four sub-committees presented a summary of the work assigned to them.
