Shafaq News / The Central Bank of Iraq issued, on Thursday, a directive to exchange companies in category (A), regarding the access of passengers to the dollar currency at four airports inside the country.
The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Ammar Hamad Khalaf Agency, said, according to an official book obtained by Shafaq News Agency, that “the Central Bank directed the exchange companies of the category (A) to facilitate travelers’ access to the dollar currency through their companies and by opening offices in airports (Baghdad – Basra – Najaf – Erbil).
Khalaf addressed the companies wishing to open an office in one or more of the above airports, and according to the geographical area of the spread of their branches, to “submit their applications to the Central Bank, specifying the airport in which they want to work.”
Earlier on Thursday, the Central Bank of Iraq decided to suspend the Western Union international money transfer service and until further notice.
Last September, the bank’s governor, Ali Al-Alaq, decided to limit internal business transactions to dinars instead of U.S. dollars, except for those delivered to travelers.
It is noteworthy that the central bank recently followed a new mechanism to auction the sale of foreign currency, according to the requirements and conditions of the Federal Bank, in order to track the dollar and stop attempts to smuggle the currency abroad.
