U.S. President Joe Biden stressed on Monday that America is committed to protecting the interests of America and its partners in the region, including Iraq.
“Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with US President Joseph Biden at the White House in Washington, D.C.,” a source told Shafaq News.
During the meeting in Sudan, Biden added that “America is committed to Israel’s security, and is committed to a ceasefire that brings the hostages back to their homeland and prevents the expansion of the conflict.”
For his part, Al-Sudani said: “We are working to move from the military relationship to full partnership with America,” noting that “the American-Iraqi relations have reached an important juncture and we aim to discuss the partnership.”
Al-Sudani pointed out that “the visit to America comes after a sensitive time and shows the importance of relations between the two sides,” explaining that “American and Iraqi views may be different on what is happening in the region, and we want to stop the expansion of the conflict,” according to the source.
Sudanese Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa is visiting Washington, D.C., during which he will meet President Joe Biden, as well as defense ministers, foreign affairs, the national security adviser and a number of US officials.
Earlier on Monday, the coalition of state administration, formed by the government of Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa of Sudan, expressed its hope that the Sudanese visit to Washington “will witness the activation of the strategic framework agreement, especially those related to energy, development, scientific exchange and investments.
The Strategic Framework Agreement is a security agreement signed between the Government of Iraq and the United States, in 2008, and this agreement includes the definition of the main provisions and requirements governing the temporary presence and activities of US military forces in Iraq and their withdrawal from Iraq.
