The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq is witnessing the beginning of the launch of a major reconstruction campaign, while noting that the return of local governments to their effectiveness will provide the best services to the Iraqi citizen.
Al-Maliki’s office said in a statement received by Mawazine News, that “the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, received in his office today the new Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen,” noting that “Al-Maliki welcomed Ambassador Hitchen, and wished him success in his new mission as ambassador to his country in Baghdad.”
“The two sides reviewed the latest developments in the political and security situation and the repercussions of regional and international events,” he added.
Al-Maliki stressed that “Iraq has close relations with the United Kingdom in various fields,” noting that “Iraq is living in a state of political and security stability and is witnessing the beginning of the launch of a major reconstruction campaign.”
He added, “Iraq is preparing to hold local elections at the end of this year that will contribute to the return of local governments for their effectiveness in order to provide the best services to the Iraqi citizen.”
For his part, the ambassador expressed his happiness to represent his country in Iraq, his readiness for joint work and coordination and his aspiration to do what he can to push forward the distinguished relations between the two countries.
