Shafaq News / The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Tuesday that Iraq’s possession of U.S. bonds fell by $400 million to about $32.6 billion last July.
“Iraq’s acquisition of U.S. Treasuries for July 2023 decreased by $400 million to $32.6 billion from $32.6 billion during the previous month,” Treasury said in its latest schedule, seen by Shafaq News, noting that “these bonds decreased by 6.12% from the same period in 2022 when Iraq’s holding of the bonds was $34.6 billion.”
Arably, Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of the most possessing countries, with 109.2 billion dollars, the UAE comes secondly with $64.9 billion, then Kuwait third with 42.5 billion dollars, then Iraq is fourth and Oman fifth by 7.061 billion dollars.
She pointed out that the most holding country for US bonds is Japan at $1.112 trillion, followed by China with $831.8 billion, followed by the United Kingdom at $662.4 billion, and then Luxembourg with $349.9 billion.
U.S. Treasuries in July were $7.763 trillion, up 1.04 percent from the same month last year’s $7,463 billion level.
