On Tuesday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani received an official invitation from US President Joseph Biden to visit Washington, D.C.”Al-Sudan, who is in New York on Tuesday morning (Baghdad time), US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly at its 78th session,” the Prime Minister’s Information Office said in a statement.The statement added that “during the meeting, aspects of cooperation between Iraq and the United States of America were discussed, and ways to enhance partnership in various fields and levels.”“The US secretary conveyed during the meeting, President Joseph Biden’s invitation to the Sudanese to visit the White House for further discussion of bilateral relations between the two countries,” he continued.The Prime Minister affirmed “his appreciation for the call and his readiness to meet it at a date to be determined later,” stressing “the importance of resuming the work of the Iraqi-American Joint Committee, with regard to the Strategic Framework Agreement between the two countries.”He pointed to “a number of important stations for bilateral cooperation, the successful visit of the Iraqi delegation headed by the Minister of Defense to Washington, and the discussion about the relationship with the international coalition to fight terrorism.”Al-Sudani said, “Iraq’s desire to develop partnership relations with the United States in areas of confronting the effects of climate change and investing in the energy sector,” welcoming “the contribution of American companies to investment opportunities in Iraq.””Emphasisizing the importance of joint cooperation in the security field to fight ISIS, in light of the growing capabilities and combat capabilities of the Iraqi security forces and their capabilities to maintain security throughout Iraq,” he said.For his part, Secretary Blinken pointed to “the US administration’s appreciation of the practical steps taken by Iraq in diversifying energy sources, optimizing gas investment and achieving self-sufficiency by signing contracts with Total, and electrical interconnection with neighboring countries.””The keenness of the United States to cooperate with Iraq in the files facing the effects of climate change, developing infrastructure, and expanding partnership in various fields,” Plinken stressed, reiterating “the support of the United States of America for the stability, development, and prosperity of Iraq.”
