The Central Bank of Iraq warned, on Sunday, exchange companies that sell dollars to travelers from receiving a commission exceeding 25 thousand dinars.
According to a letter signed by the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Ammar Hamad Khalaf, and addressed to exchange companies of categories (A and B), “it was noted that some exchange companies collect a commission from traveling citizens in the amount of 50 thousand dinars, and this contradicts the content of (..) your directive to collect a commission of only 25 thousand dinars from the citizen when he carries out a dollar purchase.”
Khalaf stressed the need to adhere to the directives issued by the Central Bank, warning exchange companies by saying, “Otherwise, it may lead in the future to your companies being excluded from participating in the foreign currency buying and selling window.”
The Central Bank of Iraq had decided at the beginning of last July to sell foreign currency (dollars) exclusively through corporate and bank outlets at international airports.
The Central Bank also decided to allow exchange companies to receive more than one share during the week, in order to fully respond to travelers’ requests.
