The American newspaper “Wall Street Journal” revealed on Friday that the team of US President-elect Donald Trump is considering launching air strikes to stop the Iranian nuclear program.
The newspaper reported that “currently, President-elect Donald Trump is considering options to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon, including the possibility of launching preventive air strikes, a move that would break with the old policy of containing Tehran with diplomacy and sanctions.”
She added, “Now the option of launching a military strike on the nuclear facilities is under more serious review by some members of Trump’s transition team, who are carefully studying the fall of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad – Tehran’s ally – in Syria, the future of American forces in the region, and Israel’s destruction of Hezbollah and Hamas.”
The newspaper quoted officials in the transition team as saying that “Iran’s weakened regional position and the recent revelation of Tehran’s burgeoning nuclear work have sparked sensitive internal discussions. However, all deliberations on this issue remain in their early stages.”
“The president-elect’s advisers fear that economic pressures will not be enough to contain Tehran, and are considering military action,” T noted .
“Trump recently told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he is concerned that Iran will engage in a nuclear program under his watch,” two sources familiar with the details said.
