Iraq and Australia have discussed expanding cooperation in the financial and banking sectors, with a focus on economic reform, development, and knowledge-sharing.
During a meeting in Baghdad, Finance Minister Faleh Al-Sari and Australian Ambassador Glenn Miles reviewed opportunities to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
The discussions covered a range of priorities, including:
- Financial and banking sector cooperation
- Support for sustainable development projects
- Economic diversification
- Modernisation of banking, tax and customs systems
- Development of programme-based budgeting mechanisms
- Exchange of expertise to support economic reform
The Ministry of Finance said it is continuing efforts to improve financial management efficiency and institutional performance through ongoing reforms. The Australian side expressed its interest in strengthening cooperation and sharing expertise to support the development of Iraq’s financial sector.
