Key Insights:
- Ethereum price broke above $2,550, shifting focus toward the $3,000 target.
- ETH futures open interest remained above $34 billion amid elevated leverage.
- ETF inflows returned on Friday after three consecutive outflow sessions.
Ethereum (ETH) price moved above key resistance on Sept. 20, 2026, as buyers defended the $2,500 area. Coinbase data showed Ethereum price trading near $2,635 during Sunday’s session after reclaiming levels watched by short-term traders. The move shifted focus toward $2,700 and $3,000, although analysts remained divided on follow-through.
The breakout followed several volatile sessions around $2,400 and $2,600. That range left traders focused on confirmation above former resistance rather than the initial recovery alone.
Futures positioning and exchange-traded fund flows also showed substantial leverage and mixed institutional demand.
Ethereum Price Reclaims Resistance After a Volatile Week
CoinMarketCap data showed ETH trading near $2,573, with a market capitalization of $315.85 billion at press time. Its 24-hour trading volume stood at around $10.05 billion, while Ethereum price traded between $2,564 and $2,660.

Ethereum Price Structure Keeps $3,000 Target in Focus
EliZ offered a tighter downside trigger around the $2,500 Ethereum price level. The trader said a 12-hour close below that level could produce a deeper decline. Continued consolidation above roughly $2,480 to $2,500 would instead preserve conditions for another rally.

ETH Price Derivatives Show Heavy Positioning
That imbalance suggested derivatives activity remained large relative to spot turnover. High open interest can support stronger directional moves when the price breaks out of established ranges. It can also increase liquidation risk if traders crowd in one direction around nearby support or resistance.
The gap between futures and spot turnover left Ethereum price sensitive to forced position closures. A failed retest could accelerate deleveraging, while stable spot buying would reduce dependence on futures-led momentum.
Across those four sessions, flows therefore remained negative despite Friday’s rebound. Rising prices and open interest did not coincide with steady ETF demand.
The setup instead reflected stronger trading activity while institutional flows stayed uneven. Continued resistance gains would depend partly on spot demand absorbing leverage-driven volatility.
ETH Price Faces $2,550 Support Test Before $3,000
The immediate technical question centers on buyers holding the former $2,530-$2,550 resistance area. A sustained hold would keep $2,700 and $2,800 within the traders’ cited upside range. The $3,000 level would remain a later target rather than confirmed resistance.
A break below $2,500 would weaken that structure and draw attention back to the $2,480 area. A deeper weakness would increase focus on lower retracement levels cited by bearish traders. Price confirmation remains more useful than isolated intraday moves around the breakout.
Ethereum also has a protocol milestone ahead. Core developers listed Oct. 6 as the planned date for the Glamsterdam Sepolia upgrade. The Ethereum Foundation separately said Glamsterdam was approaching mainnet as developers began scoping the Hegotá fork.
For traders, the next checkpoints are the $2,530–$2,550 support band and the planned Oct. 6 Sepolia upgrade. Holding the former would preserve the current breakout structure. If Ethereum price loses the $2,500 level, it would challenge the setup before Ethereum reaches its next protocol milestone.
