Baghdad – INA

The Head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, affirmed today, Monday, that Iraq’s efforts to combat corruption are showing significant development.

In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Lami said: “On the occasion of Iraqi Lawyers’ Day and the 92nd anniversary of the establishment of the Iraqi Bar Association, we extend our sincerest appreciation and congratulations to this esteemed group of our fellow citizens, who bear the responsibility of defending justice and contribute diligently and sincerely to protecting the nation’s assets and resources.”

He highlighted that “the relationship between the Federal Integrity Commission and Iraqi lawyers is complementary, based on solid foundations of mutual cooperation, and aims to safeguard public funds, combat corruption, and promote a culture of integrity and transparency within society.”

Al-Lami added: “Just as the Commission works diligently through its investigations to uncover corruption crimes and hold perpetrators accountable, lawyers play a pivotal role in completing the cycle of justice through their legitimate defense of rights and active contribution to uncovering the truth.”

He emphasized: “We believe that true justice can only be achieved through the provision of legal guarantees for defendants, based on the presumption of innocence guaranteed by our national constitution and international human rights conventions. In this context, the lawyer plays a central role as a protector of rights and freedoms and a guarantor of justice under the rule of law.”

Al-Lami also noted: “Efforts to combat corruption in our country are strengthened and advanced through strong partnerships and fruitful cooperation, which help expose corruption and violations of public funds. The Commission has worked to reinforce these ties with all, particularly associations and community organizations.”

He concluded: “At the Federal Integrity Commission, we take pride in our national partnerships and regard Iraqi lawyers as our partners in the journey toward achieving integrity and combating corruption.”
