Iraq’s Ministry of Oil has confirmed the allocation of 18,000 residential land plots to employees of state-owned oil companies in Basra.
The announcement was made on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani.
Half of the plots will be distributed to Basra Oil Company (BOC) staff, with the remaining 50 percent allocated among other oil companies in proportion to workforce size. The Ministry said the titles were issued in cooperation with the Basra Governor’s Office, local authorities, and parliamentarians, following approvals from more than 15 ministries.
The Oil Minister also noted that approvals have been secured for an additional 40,000 residential plots on reclaimed land (“sabkha”) in Basra, which will be distributed once legal procedures are completed.
Abdul Ghani reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all oil sector employees across Iraq can obtain housing to support social stability and living standards.
