The New Arab” Monitors The Atmosphere Of The Sadrist Sit-Ins Inside The Green Zone
Baghdad August 22 2022 Al-Sadr’s followers stormed the parliament building earlier this month (Al-Araby Al-Jadeed) Thousands of supporters of the leader of the Sadrist movement , Muqtada al-Sadr , have been camping in the Green Zone , in the center of the capital, Baghdad, for nearly a month, setting up their tents near the parliament building, which they had stormed earlier this month. However, al-Sadr ordered them to withdraw from it and settle for a sit-in on its walls.
The followers of the Sadrist movement practice their religious and ceremonial rites on the occasion of the month of “Muharram”, and they emphasize staying in the Green Zone until the issuance of orders to withdraw from al-Sadr exclusively.
The Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reporter toured the Green Zone, among dozens of tents bearing various titles, such as “Neither Eastern nor Western,” and others referring to the pro-Iranian parties, as the slogan “No to Subordination,” and others bearing the addresses of the Iraqi regions from which Sadr’s followers came in compliance with orders. Their leader al-Sadr, such as “the tent of Nasiriyah, the tent of Basra, the tent of Karbala, and the tent of Samawa.”
Sadr’s supporters put up pictures of the dead in the protests that took place in the country in October 2019, and other pictures of the opinion dead in the country, who are accused of killing by the pro-Iranian factions, such as the Iraqi expert Hisham al-Hashemi.
A number of Sadrists’ supporters told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “the Sadrist movement’s current project is to eliminate the partisan and sectarian quotas that lead their country to destruction and loss, through peaceful protests and pressure on the Iraqi judiciary in order to stop the state of political demolition and the concept of a democratic state.” They stated that they “obey the orders of their leader Muqtada al-Sadr, and will not abandon the “reform” project demanded by al-Sadr, and that they are ready for any escalation ordered by al-Sadr.”
One of them, Iyad Abu Abdullah, said that “the time factor does not matter for the Sadrists, even the heat of the weather does not prevent the continuation of the sit-in demanded by Muqtada al-Sadr, and therefore the presence in the Green Zone is not considered a partisan matter by al-Sadr, but rather it is a national assignment and a duty.” Legitimate for reform.
Abu Abdullah confirmed to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “if Al-Sadr wanted us to stay for a longer period, such as three or four months, then there would be no objection from the Sadrists, and our presence will remain until the demands of the Sadrist movement are achieved, which do not completely differ with the demands of the Sadrist movement.” The Iraqi people are tired of the domination of pro-foreign parties and armed factions that threaten everyone.”
Al-Sadr continues to refrain from sitting with the leaders of the “coordinating framework” forces close to Iran, in order to reach solutions to form the new government, and he continues to demand and stress the need for early elections with a new law, after he issued an order for the forced resignation of members of the “Sadr bloc” that was It consists of 73 members of the House of Representatives, in protest against being prevented from forming a government that bears his features.
Al-Sadr revealed, in his tweet, published on Saturday, that he submitted a proposal to the United Nations for a public debate with the political parties, the “Coordination Framework Alliance”, but he did not receive an answer, stressing that he would not enter into a new secret dialogue with them, and called for waiting for “other steps.”
Addressing his speech to the people, he said: “We would like to inform you that we submitted a proposal to the United Nations for a dialogue session, but rather a public debate and a direct broadcast with all the political parties, and we did not see a tangible answer from them.” Hunger, and it did not include anything about reform, or the demands of the revolutionaries, or what the people are suffering.”

The Iraqi crisis: the failure of efforts to unite al-Sadr and al-Amiri
Al-Sadr continued: “They did not give what is happening any importance at all,” stressing: “Therefore, we ask everyone to wait for our other steps regarding the policy of ignoring what has become of Iraq and its people because of corruption and dependency.”
He added, “They do not expect us to have a new secret dialogue after that. I do not hide anything from my people and I will not sit with the corrupt and those who want to harm or kill me or harm those who belong to the Sadr family.” They have the capacity to fix what has been spoiled to save Iraq.”
For his part, Ahmed Al-Sharifi, a researcher and political analyst, pointed out that “the Sadrists will never leave al-Sadr, but rather they will stay by their leader’s side, especially since he is again hinting at the presence of someone who wants to kill him or punish him as a result of his speech and his reform plan.” LINK
