Iraq Revises Wheat Pricing for New Agricultural Season iraq-businessnews

Iraq’s Council of Ministers has approved revised purchase prices for wheat and a procurement plan for high-grade seeds for the 2025-2026 agricultural season, according to an official government statement.

The approved wheat purchase prices are as follows:

  • IQD 700,000 per tonne (approximately USD 534) for quantities within the agricultural plan
  • IQD 500,000 per tonne (approximately USD 381) for quantities outside the agricultural plan

Yield estimates have been set at 900 kg per dunum for land using modern irrigation systems, 750 kg per dunum for flood-irrigated land, and 300 kg per dunum for rain-fed land.

The Council also approved the procurement of 100,000 tonnes of high-grade wheat seeds at IQD 700,000 per tonne (approximately USD 534).

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq has been allocated a quota of 400,000 tonnes under the 2025-2026 marketing plan, comprising 292,000 tonnes within the plan and 108,000 tonnes outside it.

The Council further approved the settlement of outstanding payments owed to farmers for both the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons. The Ministry of Finance will include the relevant loan amounts and accrued interest in the next general budget bill, and will provide repayment guarantees to the state-owned Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI).
