Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom Meets UK Minister of State for Trade
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, met with Sir Chris Bryant, Minister of State for Trade, at the Department for Business and Trade in London on 13 April 2026.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance trade relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom, as well as mechanisms for implementing the provisions of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed on 14 January 2025.
At the outset of the meeting, Sir Chris welcomed the Ambassador, reaffirming the British Government’s firm commitment to advancing the implementation of the outcomes of the bilateral agreement.
The Ambassador expressed Iraq’s desire to strengthen cooperation across a range of economic sectors, including infrastructure and essential services, energy security, water security, and digital transformation.
He emphasised the importance of enhancing joint engagement with specialised British institutions, particularly UK Export Finance, to support the Iraqi private sector by opening financing channels and providing credit guarantees. This would enable it to play a central role in sustainable development and to build meaningful partnerships with its British counterpart alongside the public sector.
The meeting concluded with agreement to maintain coordination and technical-level engagements between both sides to ensure the resolution of obstacles and the swift implementation of joint projects, reflecting the depth of the longstanding relations between the two countries.
