Shiite alliance taps wealthy entrepreneur as Iraq’s youngest PM-designate
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has tasked 41-year-old businessman Ali Al-Zaidi with forming a government, making him the country’s youngest prime minister-designate.
The surprise choice comes after months of deadlock within the ruling Shiite Coordination Framework, and amid US efforts to crack down on Iran-linked factions.
Zaidi’s nomination has raised questions over whether it is a genuine reset, or serves as a protective buffer for the Shiite political establishment.
