Iraq’s oil exports to U.S. collapse to 8,000 bpd
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s oil exports to the United States saw a dramatic collapse last week, with shipments falling to an average of just 8,000 barrels per day (bpd). The massive drop, confirmed by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) in a report today, Saturday (October 4, 2025), represents a decrease of 189,000 bpd from the previous week’s average of 197,000 bpd.
The sharp decline pushes Iraq far down the list of U.S. oil suppliers, temporarily interrupting its position as a major exporter. The EIA noted that total U.S. crude oil imports from nine primary countries also dropped significantly last week, falling by 920,000 bpd to an average of 4.847 million bpd.
The largest supplier to the U.S. market was Canada, which shipped 4.100 million bpd, followed by Mexico (265,000 bpd) and Saudi Arabia (248,000 bpd). Libya and other countries also supplied significantly more than Iraq during the week. This steep drop for Iraq contrasts sharply with its performance in July, when it ranked as the fourth-largest global supplier of crude oil to the U.S.
