Iraq’s Silica Reserves Exceed 350 Million Tons Iraqi News

The Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced on Saturday that Iraq’s proven reserves of silica amount to 350 million tons, detailing the strategic industrial sectors in which it is used.

Ministry spokesperson Duha al-Jubouri told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Iraq’s silica reserves have reached more than 350 million tons.”

Al-Jubouri explained that “silica is a vital raw material used in many important industries, most notably glass manufacturing, solar cells, thermal industries, as well as insulators, electronics, and other products.”

Al-Jubouri indicated that “the Ministry of Industry and Minerals is currently working to utilize silica primarily in the glass and refractories industries.”
