Cleitus: I recall several weeks ago, perhaps even 2 or 3 months ago there was a discussion that you brought up that the Kurds were going to be rewarded for using their Peshmerga forces to help fight ISIS in the Northern provinces.
It was also stated that some of the cities in the Northern provinces were going to be given to the Kurds as part of their reward. Indulging in the discussion…, and, I can’t be certain exactly what I stated but I recall that I mentioned in one of the posts that, in addition to the cities and towns that were going to be given to the Kurds, a new census should be taken because the 17% was not enough revenue for the Kurds since more land would be in their possession. Land that is valuable with oil.
Now…, the budget was passed years before ISIS came to the scene and years before the Kurds were promised their reward. And, a budget at the time that gave them only 17% of the oil rights. So what has changed since? Plenty…, IMO.
Cleitus: Now, the obvious for me today if I were Barzani is…, I would most definitely ask for MORE of the oil revenue. Land filled with oil that my Peshmerga army fought and many died for in liberating these wealthy oil towns and cities. Oil that is translated into money for my people.
Today, I would ask Parliament to have the budget amended so MY KURDS can have more of a cut from this wealth in the region that I liberated. More than the 17% I negotiated before ISIS and before the temporary Caliphate was established.
I believe the fat lady is probably hiding the citizens coming home in these areas like Mosul. And, perhaps even a new census is being taken now. Until all is settled the “fat lady’ is on a starvation diet. Each day, as Frank says, will reveal more and more for us to see as her fat body dwindles!
