Iraq could afford the patronage system when they were making $100 billion a year from oil but now that it’s down, there’s no fat to feed the folks.
It seems like Iraq has the right idea, move these folks off the government teet and get them into the private sector, but they’re doing it backwards.
First they need to set up the open market economy and then you grant these folks “vacation.”
By moving these folks over it will save the government’s bloated payroll but it needs to be done with some kind of common sense.
