The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has held the first meeting of the committee supporting women’s economic empowerment in the agricultural and environmental sectors.
The committee was formed under Diwani Order No. 89 of 2025. The meeting took place at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and committee chair, Othman Ibrahim al-Jahishi, called for the preparation of an executive action plan. He urged the Ministry of Agriculture and banks to:
Allocate land suitable for agricultural and industrial investment
Provide soft loans to women
Support the establishment and expansion of small projects
Integrate women-led projects into the agricultural and industrial sectors
The Director General of the National Directorate for Iraqi Women, Yusra Karim Mohsen, presented an overview of the women’s economic empowerment project, confirming that an executive plan would be prepared within three months. The plan will include banking initiatives and assessments of the agricultural sector and logistical support, covering the period 2026-2029.
The meeting also reviewed women-led activities and projects, including agricultural initiatives implemented by the Holy Karbala Shrine.
The session concluded with recommendations aimed at strengthening women’s economic participation in line with government policy.
