UK universities
The British Council has urged UK universities to participate in Iraq’s expanded postgraduate scholarship programme, launched by the Iraqi Higher Committee for Education Development (HCED).
From 2025, HCED will provide 1,000 fully funded scholarships each year until a total of 5,000 awards are delivered by 2030. The scholarships cover Master’s, PhD, and medical training programmes.
The initiative is designed to align with Iraq’s development priorities while offering UK institutions access to generously funded students and streamlined collaboration. Programme details confirm that Master’s degrees will last one to two years, while PhDs will run for three to four years.
A detailed Q&A document, developed jointly by the British Council and HCED, has been made available to assist universities with admissions, eligibility, funding, and partnership processes.
