The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) has announced details of its urban development initiatives for Baghdad’s heritage areas, including a donation of more than 90 billion Iraqi dinars [$90 million] to revive Al-Rasheed Street, one of the capital’s most famous cultural and tourist landmarks.

Plans include the introduction of a tram line as a distinctive feature in the heart of old Baghdad. The project is being prepared and monitored in coordination with the Council of Ministers, Baghdad Municipality, the Ministry of Culture, and the Iraqi Private Banks League.

In addition, the CBI is funding other heritage projects, including a contribution of more than 3 billion dinars for the House of Cultural Affairs and 2 billion dinars for restoration works at the Wali’s House within the historic Saray complex near Al-Qushla.
