Dollar inches down against Dong (VND)

The U.S. dollar fell against the Vietnamese dong Tuesday morning but remained steady globally.

Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND25,483, down 0.008% from Monday.

The State Bank of Vietnam lowered its reference rate by 0.008% to VND24,270.

On the black market the dollar was sold 0.29% higher at VND25,725.

The dollar has risen 4.27% against the dong since the beginning of the year.

Globally the dollar index, which measures the U.S. currency against six rivals, was steady at 106.77 and on course for 5% gain for the year.

The yen last fetched 154.085 per dollar and remained on the defensive on slim chances of a hike from the BOJ this week, with a majority of economists polled by Reuters expecting the central bank to hold interest rates.

In other currencies, the euro stood at $1.05207, on course for a near 5% drop in 2024. Sterling was steady at $1.2689.
