Dollar strengthens against dong on black market VNEXPRESS

The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong on the black market Tuesday morning.

Unofficial exchange points sold the greenback at VND26,600, up 0.38%.

Vietcombank kept its rate unchanged at VND26,180.

Globally the dollar held gains on Tuesday as positive economic readings and shifting expectations for Federal Reserve policy outweighed concerns about another U.S. government shutdown, Reuters reported.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was little changed at 97.51, after a two-day advance.

The euro was up 0.1% at $1.1802, and the yen tacked on 0.1% to 155.47 per dollar.

The Aussie rose after the Reserve Bank of Australia delivered on an expected rate hike, the first of three major central bank decisions this week.

The yen remained lower days before a pivotal election in Japan, and as the finance minister played down comments from the nation’s premier on the benefits of a weak currency.
