Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – A drone was shot down today, Saturday (September 13, 2025), near the perimeter of Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone. Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the cause of the incident, though both sources confirm the drone was used for photography and carried no explosive materials.
An official security source told a local news sgency that the drone was downed by air defenses belonging to the US Embassy. The drone reportedly fell on the building of the Federal Supreme Court, which is the highest judicial authority in Iraq, and was identified as a photography drone.
In contrast, the Baghdad Operations Command provided a different account in a statement, confirming that a photography drone was indeed downed near the Green Zone. However, the command attributed the incident to a “technical malfunction” in the drone itself.
