The Government Communication Team confirmed, on Saturday, Iraq’s participation in the “Baghdad Bridge” Entrepreneurship Program, currently being held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to support entrepreneurship and create job opportunities.
“Iraq, represented by the head of the Government Communication Team, Ammar Munim, participated with more than 35 emerging and medium-sized companies in the “Baghdad Bridge” Entrepreneurship Program, currently being held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” according to a statement by the Government Communication Team, received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
Munim explained that “the program is the result of the efforts of the Capita Foundation for Entrepreneurship in Iraq, with support from the Dutch government, the Riyada Center for Digital Business of the Saudi Ministry of Communications, and in a strategic partnership with Digital Zone, in addition to cooperation with the Saudi VMS Company.”
“The program highlights important areas including logistics, financial technology, digital health, and agricultural technology. The products of participating companies will be marketed to Saudi and regional investors,” he added.
He explained that “the broader goal is to exchange expertise and knowledge in the fields of innovation and digital transformation, and to connect Iraqi startups with venture capital funds in Saudi Arabia and the region. Iraq’s participation in this program falls within the government’s drive to support entrepreneurship and create job opportunities to combat poverty and reduce unemployment, in line with sustainable economic development plans.”
In turn, Capita Director Mujahid Weissi stressed, according to the statement, that “building a bridge between the Saudi and Iraqi private sectors represents a great opportunity,” noting that “despite the good trade figures between the two countries, the startup sector still needs to strengthen ties.”
“There is a great opportunity for Saudi companies to expand into the Iraqi market, given its growing size and needs, while in return, the Saudi market represents a gateway for Iraqi startups to global markets,” he highlighted.
