The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister has briefed Iraq’s Foreign Minister on the continuing protests in Iran, emphasising, “the importance of continued joint efforts to support regional stability.”
According to some estimates, thousands of people have been killed in what the UK’s Foreign Secretary described as, “the most brutal and bloody repression against public protest in Iran for at least thirteen years.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Baghdad, Mr. Vahid Jalalzadeh, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Parliamentary Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed, with both sides affirming the importance of developing these relations and enhancing areas of joint cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests and enhances stability in the region.
The two sides also discussed the need to activate the work of the Iraqi-Iranian Joint Consular Committee and to pave the way for holding its next meeting in Baghdad, in order to help address consular issues and facilitate citizens’ affairs in both countries.
