Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The fifth technical meeting for the Development Road project commenced today, Monday (September 15, 2025), in Baghdad. The meeting, presided over by Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, included technical delegations from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey.
Al-Saadawi, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency, said the meeting was a continuation of previous discussions aimed at updating partner countries on Iraq’s progress. The meeting was held under the sponsorship of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, with the participating nations being briefed on the latest procedures from the Iraqi government and the Supreme Committee for the project. These procedures include forming committees for land acquisition, compensation, and security to protect the project’s route from Basra to Turkey.
The Minister also confirmed that the financial and economic model, prepared by the consulting firm Oliver Wyman, has been completed. Partner countries were also informed of the significant progress on the Grand Faw Port, as well as the railway and dry road components. Al-Saadawi indicated that Iraq is soon expected to announce the first section of the project. He added that Oman has formally requested to join the project, with other countries also expressing interest, highlighting growing regional confidence in the strategic initiative.
