Iraq to raise Samawah refinery’s capacity to 100,000 barrels per day Iraqi News

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said on Wednesday that the government plans to raise the Samawah refinery’s capacity to 100,000 barrels per day to meet local demands in the southern Iraqi province of Muthanna.

During the opening of the new Samawah oil products storage facility, which has a capacity of 75,000 cubic meters, al-Sudani noted that the completion of this project makes the southern Iraqi province a reliable source of oil derivatives, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Al-Sudani explained that the project will ensure a smooth and continuous operation of the Samawah crude oil refinery, which currently produces 30,000 barrels per day.

The prime minister highlighted that expanding the Samawah refinery’s refining capacity by about 70,000 barrels per day is part of the government’s strategy to improve refining capacity across all Iraqi provinces.

Al-Sudani underscored the government’s commitment to developing output and refineries, as well as the essential infrastructure, such as pipelines, storage tanks, and other facilities. He stated that several of these projects have been finished in different Iraqi provinces, with the remainder now underway.
