Iraq, Turkey Explore New Investment and Trade Opportunities iraq-businessnews

Iraqi officials held separate meetings with the Turkish ambassador to Iraq and a delegation of Turkish businessmen this week, focusing on expanding investment and trade cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi received Turkish ambassador to Iraq Anil Bora Inan, along with representatives of Turkish companies and businessmen, as part of the Iraqi-Turkish Business Council.

Al-Zaidi highlighted investment opportunities available to Turkish companies, citing the Development Road project, the Al Faw Grand Port, and the management and operation of hospitals and airports, alongside energy and water management projects.

He instructed that visa procedures for Turkish businessmen be eased, along with other facilitations aimed at sustaining investment momentum in Iraq. The Turkish ambassador affirmed his government’s interest in developing bilateral relations across various fields, while the Turkish businessmen expressed readiness to launch investment projects in Iraq.

Separately, the Ministry of Trade said Minister Mustafa Nizar Jumaa chaired an expanded meeting with Inan and a number of Turkish businessmen and traders to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic and trade cooperation.

Jumaa said Iraq and Turkey are linked by longstanding historical relations, geographic proximity and mutual economic interests, adding that the government places significant importance on providing an attractive investment environment and encouraging partnerships with established companies, particularly Turkish ones.

The meeting also covered mechanisms to expand bilateral cooperation beyond trade to include infrastructure, transport, investment, energy, health, food industries, port operations and water desalination, with an emphasis on drawing on Turkish expertise and increasing the presence of Turkish companies and businessmen in the Iraqi market.
