Iraqi PM to visit Qatar for emergency summit on Gaza Iraqi News

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani will travel to Qatar to attend an emergency summit called in response to a deadly Israeli strike in Doha that killed several people, including Hamas members.

The unprecedented attack, carried out on the territory of a US ally, has sparked outrage across the Arab and Islamic world and prompted calls for a unified response.

The summit, scheduled for Monday, will gather leaders from the region to discuss a joint resolution condemning Israel’s actions and to explore measures for holding it accountable.

Al-Sudani’s participation underscores Iraq’s determination to play a central diplomatic role in regional affairs and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Since assuming office in 2022, Al-Sudani has stressed the importance of stability and humanitarian protection in the Middle East. His trip to Doha highlights Baghdad’s alignment with neighboring states in pushing the international community to take firmer action against what they describe as grave violations in Gaza and now in Qatar.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has urged world powers to end “double standards” and confront Israel over what he called a “war of extermination.”

Other leaders expected in Doha include Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s attendance remains uncertain.
