A committee has been formed in Jordan to oversee and expedite transit trade, with a particular focus on goods destined for Iraq.
According to Jordan’s state-run Petra news agency, the committee will submit operational reports every three days on the movement of goods from the Port of Aqaba to their final destinations, and will be responsible for identifying and resolving administrative and logistical bottlenecks in real time.
The announcement was made by Minister of Transport Nidal Katamine during a meeting with the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies. Katamine said that coordination between all stakeholders is essential to ensure the seamless flow of goods and to keep pace with increasing workload at the Port of Aqaba.
The discussions centred on the growing volume of transit activity directed towards the Iraqi market, which officials said requires higher operational efficiency and modernised logistics services. Representatives from the clearance association outlined the primary challenges facing their operations, and the minister pledged government support to simplify procedures and improve the business environment for transport companies.
The meeting was also attended by stakeholders from the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), as part of a broader government effort to enhance the competitiveness of Jordan’s transport sector and leverage its strategic location to boost international trade.
