THE SAS has made the leader of Islamic State (ISIS) its number one target, with the murderous jihadi being described as “a dead man walking”.
The elite military unit has been ordered to take down Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a “kill not capture mission”.
Defense chiefs in both Britain and the US believe eliminating the ISIS leader is the best chance of defeating the terror cell for good.
They hope that by cutting off the head the body will die, in a similar way to al-Qaeda, which has never fully recovered from the death of leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in 2006.
MI6 and GCHQ are now putting all resources into tracking down and killing al-Baghdadi.
The assassination plot will be led by top SAS snipers, while covert squads monitor hideouts in Iraq and Syria.
Spy planes will intercept emails and phone calls, with additional intelligence coming from MI6 and CIA double agents who have deserted al-Baghdadi after seeing atrocities carried outing his name.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, an unnamed defence source said: “The head of IS is now a priority target. That means the SAS will be using all of their experience and skill to track him down.
“He is a dead man walking, it’s just a matter of time.
“He’s going to be killed by ground troops or taken out in an air strike or drone strike.”
The SAS will also work closely with US counterparts Delta Force, alongside the CIA and the National Security Agency.
It was a team of SAS and Delta Force soldiers who hunted down al-Qaida boss al-Zarqawi in Iraq in 2006.
The terror leader was traced to a safehouse in Hbhib and died after a US Air Force F16 dropped dropped two 500lb guided bombs onto the building.
Over the years there have numerous reports of al-Baghdadi’s death, all of which have proven false.
There was growing speculation that he had been killed after not being seen in recent months, but he was reportedly spotted last month.
At the same time, the US government raised the price on his head from $10million to $25m.

Germany’s Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel has warned that Chancellor Angela Merkel’s increasing pressure on the European Union countries to maintain their fiscal discipline could widen divisions in the EU and lead to its imminent collapse.
“I once asked the chancellor, what would be more costly for Germany: for France to be allowed to have half a percentage point more deficit, or for Marine Le Pen to become president?” Gabriel said in an interview published on Saturday in Der Spiegel magazine, adding, “Until today, she still owes me an answer.”
Gabriel, the head of Germany’s Social Democrats Party (SPD) and a partner to Merkel’s conservatives in her ruling grand coalition, said Germany’s insistence on austerity in the euro zone has left Europe more divided than ever, putting the 28-member bloc at the risk of a real break-up.
“But I also know about the state of the EU. It is no longer unthinkable that it breaks apart,” he said, adding that Berlin’s pressure on countries such as France and Italy to tighten their fiscal discipline has led to more political risks, such as the rise of far-right, nationalist political parties.
The SPD has repeatedly challenged Merkel’s emphasis on fiscal discipline as a foundation for economic prosperity, saying greater focus on investment could be the EU’s path to success.
Gabriel said Germany would badly lose if the EU crumbles over economic problems and also divisions over how the bloc should handle an unprecedented exodus of refugees from the Middle East and Africa.
“Should that happen, our children and grandchildren would curse us,” he said, adding, “Germany is the biggest beneficiary of the European community, economically and politically.”
Sources in the SPD said on January 5 that Gabriel, who is also Germany’s economy minister, could contest Merkel in September’s federal election if members extend the mandate of the party’s long-standing president.

Samson: $7.2b Foreign Loan Secured : Iran

The Central Bank of Iran has received $7.2 billion from three foreign banks, namely Exim Bank of China, Italy’s Mediobanca and Denmark’s Danske Bank, a top CBI official announced on Saturday.
“The CBI plans to attract $10 billion in foreign finance for implementing one of its future projects, 72% of which have been realized so far,” Tasnim News Agency quoted Gholamali Kamyab, CBI’s deputy for foreign exchange affairs, as saying.
He added that CBI expects the whole plan to materialize by the end of 2017. The project is in line with plans for promoting Resistance Economy, said the official without providing more details. Resistance Economy refers to a set of principles outlined by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei for bolstering domestic production and curbing oil dependence.
