Mike: This is going to be the fly in Abadi’s ointment regarding his new cabinet. The Kurd’s are ok with the change in the cabinet, as long as they get a seat at the table. Abadi’s been trying to get away from the quota system but in order to do that, he’s going to need Parliament’s vote to make the changes.
Unless everyone gets a seat at the table, Parliament’s not going to support the changes. Hopefully Abadi can find intelligent, knowledgeable technocrats from all three major sects and put this new government together with Parliament’s support.

Tlar: IMO parliament will rubber stamp the new technocrats the first time Abadi presents them which most likely is this Friday. The blocks have presented their choices already but unknown to them Abadi has his own list choose by the British.
The article above tends to answer the question as to the NA asking Abadi to slow down the change offering 6 months as another alternative.

Brule: Thanks, Tlar! I completely agree with you regarding Shabibi, although I don’t think he will be offered the job, I think he took it a long time ago and is just waiting for the seat to be emptied. 8)
Tlar: Brule, long time no see. I have always valued your opinion and would like to get your thoughts on Sadr and the demonstrations. I think Sadr’s job in all this is to pressurize the change putting fear into all those who continue to try to stall this.
I think Sadr is on board with Abadi and is taking an active roll in pushing this agenda the only way he can be of benifit to Abadi. By threatening to over run the green zone he has been able to get everyone going the same direction through that fear.
Ministers quiting that otherwise might have tried to stay on, antagonistic blocks backing down from pushing to delay, etc. etc. I don’t think under any circmstances would he actually go in and wipe the government out.
But he has put the fear of Allah in the corrupt politicians and they aren’t sure if he means what he says. This is why I think Abadi will be able to get this government seated quickly.
Sadr is the bulldozer working with Abadi clearing the way for the reforms, while Abadi quickly gets them in place before the SOL and the other corrupt have a chance to organize. What’s your thoughts? tlar
Brule: Tlar, once again, I am in complete agreement with our assessement, this time concerning Sadr and his recent activities. There is not a corrupt person that has stolen the people’s money and allowed them to become sick, wallow in poverty, and die that is not afraid with the people coming after them with burning brooms and pitchforks. The Green Zone is a confined area with Iraqi troops and 1,800 US military there.
I know who I would put my money on if a squirmish came about. The armies are supporting the government and Abadi, and at this point how loyal do you think any of the hired security teams are going to be. If I were Maliki, I would have put up a For Rent sign in the palace window a while ago.
The question I can only speculate, but with no certainty, is why is Sadr not uprising against the “infidels” in his country. It seems that ever since Abadi’s last pow wow with Washington, he has gotten more positive work done and more American troops have gone into Iraq (with great success!) and Sadr says nothing. Has he made a deal with devil for the good of his country? It appears that way.
Sadr and Abadi have become quite the team, a tag team. I believe Abadi’s motives are for the good of his country, but I am unsure what Sadr will get out of this, but it is something. Maybe the Maliki Bedroom.
