US House nullifies legal reasons used to attack Iraq in 1991, 2003 Iraqi News

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The United States House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to repeal the legal justifications used to attack Iraq in 1991 and 2003.

The Iraqi embassy in Washington said in a statement on Thursday that the decision marks an important milestone in the development of relations between Iraq and the United States, the state-run news agency (INA) reported.

According to the Iraqi embassy, the step supports Iraq’s sovereignty and marks a new chapter in Iraqi-American ties built on mutual respect and shared interests.

The Iraqi embassy in Washington reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to continuing to engage with the United States to promote regional stability and international collaboration.

The statement added that Iraq anticipates final Senate confirmation.

The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 261 to 167. It received support from 212 Democrats and 49 Republicans, according to CBS News.

The action comes after President Trump’s decisions to launch strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and target a boat reportedly transporting illegal narcotics in the Caribbean.
