Coalition Announces Killing of IS Oil and Gas Head in Syria
The US-led Coalition announced on Tuesday it has killed the head of the Islamic State (IS) oil and gas network, Abu Khattab al-Iraqi, in Syria last month.
The Coalition also revealed in a statement that three other IS jihadists were killed alongside the high-ranking jihadist during the raid carried out on May 26 in the “Middle Euphrates River valley”.
“The death of these (Islamic State) members hinders the terrorist group’s ability to finance operations throughout Iraq and Syria … the ability to pay fighters, procure weapons, and maintain equipment will be degraded,” Reuters quoted the statement.
Al-Iraqi had “managed revenue generation through the illicit sale of oil and gas”, the statement says. Source
