Iraq, Libya discuss cooperation in energy sector Iraqi News

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and his Libyan counterpart, Khalifa Abdelsadiq, have discussed possibilities for collaboration in the energy sector.

During their meeting held on the sidelines of their participation in the Baghdad International Energy Forum 2025 (BIEF), the two sides discussed exchanging knowledge in production, contractual processes, and agreements, according to The Libya Observer.

The two ministers also spoke about Iraq’s achievements in recovering flared gas and how similar measures may be implemented in Libya.

The meeting addressed the value of shared expertise, as well as energy efficiency and sustainability.

Both Abdul-Ghani and Abdelsadiq emphasized Libya and Iraq’s historic links and promised further collaboration.

As one of the most significant energy events on the regional and international scale, Iraq successfully hosted the BIEF 2025 on September 6-7.

The gathering was attended by OPEC Secretary-General Haitham al-Ghais, energy ministers from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Iran, Turkey, and Libya, as well as representatives from major international oil, gas, and renewable energy companies.

The presence of such a diverse group of ministers and officials at the forum indicates rising worldwide and regional recognition of Iraq’s role as a significant player in the energy sector.
