Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Turkey’s Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Ahmet Berat Conkar, stated on Saturday that the country sees opportunities for enhanced energy cooperation with Iraq.
During the Baghdad International Energy Forum 2025 (BIEF), Conkar stated that Turkey is actively monitoring recent discussions aimed at restarting oil exports through the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, which has been in operation since the 1970s, according to TRT Global.
Conkar elaborated that the two countries are also discussing cooperation in natural gas, electricity, and Iraq’s strategic project of the Development Road as an energy corridor.
The Turkish official stated that Iraq’s energy potential is far larger than in previous years and that efforts are underway to construct the required infrastructure.
Turkey seeks to make energy cooperation in the region an instrument of stability and development, allowing for a more optimistic perspective on the future, according to Conkar.
Conkar added that Turkey is making efforts to push both the energy reform and its long-standing relations with Iraq forward.
