Iraq to ban imported electrical appliances without barcode from September 15 Iraqi News

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s Ministry of Planning announced today, Saturday (September 13, 2025), the implementation of a new set of measures to control the quality of imported electrical appliances. Starting this Monday, September 15, no electrical products will be allowed into the country without a specific barcode that certifies their compliance with Iraqi quality standards.

Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Planning, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that imported electrical appliances are subject to a range of standards set by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. The new barcode will be the mandatory proof of the “Iraqi Quality Mark,” which has been a requirement for these products since July 1, 2024.

The new measures apply to a range of home appliances, including water heaters, electric heaters, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and electric ovens. Al-Hindawi explained that obtaining a “Certificate of Conformity” from an accredited body in the country of origin is the first step, a requirement that must be met before products are shipped to Iraq.

The ministry has also integrated the ASYCUDA tracking system as a prerequisite for inspecting these goods. In addition to the barcode, imported products must include clear data on their country of origin, the importer’s or manufacturer’s name, and all electrical specifications (voltage, frequency, power), along with energy efficiency labels. The new procedures are part of a broader government effort to protect consumers, ensure product safety, and support the national economy by preventing the entry of substandard goods.
