Baghdad is turning the old September 30th deadline into the beginning of a larger disarmament process, rather than the date by which everything must be finished. Baghdad is preparing a new plan…Former Prime Minister Al-Maliki said yesterday that a formal timetable and program for bringing weapons under state control will be announced on September 30th…Al-Maliki made those comments while meeting US Charge d’Afaires Stephen Fagan in Baghdad. We now have three things happening simultaneously. Al-Zaidi is in New York telling Washington Iraq intends to eliminate independent armed groups. Political leaders back in Baghdad are negotiating the September 30th roadmap, and some of the most powerful Iran-aligned factions are still refusing full disarmament… Reports have linked US pressure over the militia to Iraq’s access to dollar flows…That makes September 30th potentially a major news day for the Iraqi dinar… :Sandy Ingram
