No Ethno-Religious Component Should Be Called “Minority”: Barzani
The different ethnic and religious components of Kurdistan Region should not be called “minorities” as each of them is an asset that cannot be measured with numbers, said Kurdish leader and president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
Barzani made the remarks while receiving the Turkmen and Christian parliamentary factions.
“Kurdistan is the land for all its components who have the right to take part in its governance; and we have to shoulder responsibilities altogether,” Barzani was quoted in a press release.
He reiterated that the future Constitution of Kurdistan will preserve the rights of its components, and it will prevent any discrimination based on one’s ethnicity or religion.
The Turkmen and Christian lawmakers thanked Barzani for his continued advocacy to preserve the rights of different components even during the process of drafting the new Iraqi Constitution after 2003. Source
